Many of Tom’s friends in Friars and Skunk Hollow Ski clubs are at Chicago Week ski week in Whitefish Montana. We are all saddened by our friend’s passing. Sorry that we could not attend services for Tom. Tom and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.

You cannot say enough about Tom and the man he was. What an inspirational life. Biking from coast to coast, hiking the Appalachian Trail. The volunteering and the countless lives he touched. I knew Tom through the center and came to admire him very much. My heartfelt condolences to his family and those close friends of his.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to Tom's family and friends. Tom was an active member of the Chicago Mountaineering Club. He volunteered from time to time to help the club manage and organize the CMC Library. He also volunteered to help during our annual pancake breakfast. Tom always had a great attitude. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the CMC.

Condolences to all who held Tom dear, his many friends and family. His upbeat attitude never failed to buoy you up as well. I worked with him for many years, you could always depend on him for help and guidance, and chocolate snacks which he invariably produced for all to enjoy. Shared interests also contributed to our friendship. My wife Judy and I enjoyed many a conversation about adventures past and upcoming over a pint at Vaughn's or The Irish Heritage Center. Tom was a vibrant, generous and sincere friend whom we have been deprived of all to soon. Hold a place for me at the bar on the other side Tommy, we will have more tales to tell when next we meet

I know I can speak for Forest Trails Hiking Club when I say that Tom will be sorely missed by all. He was our beloved "sweep," volunteering to go last so that no one would be left behind. I learned of his selfless nature on my very first hike with the club; with a stress-fractured femur and an awkwardly inappropriate day pack, I was really struggling. But Tom stayed with me to the end and even fashioned a stabilizer for my pack from a random piece of cord. When I told him that that was the kindest thing anyone had done for me in quite a while, he replied, "I hope not, dear!" A truly exemplary individual, what an inspiration he was and continues to be! Bring a trash bag on your next hike and keep his trail stewardship alive. Rest in Peace, dear Muffin Man!
