Our History

Our dedication to customer service and protecting the feelings of our families has made us Chicago's premier funeral home. We pride ourselves on treating your family as a one of our own and carry out all of your wishes in remembering a loved one. With being a family business, we concentrate on helping people properly say goodbye to their loved ones.

Founded by Edward and Margaret Tohle.

Tohle Funeral Home was founded in the Mayfair Neighborhood of Chicago during the Depression at the corner of Kostner and Lawrence. It was located in a store front operation that was typical for that day.

In 1955, when the new funeral home was built at the current location of Lawrence and Lowell in the neighborhood of Mayfair, their nephew, Michael J. Coleman, joined the firm.

After the death of Edward Tohle in 1976, Kenneth C. Halter came to work for Michael J. Coleman until the time of his death in July of 2001. Kenneth C. Halter is the current owner of Tohle Funeral Home.
