Which memories shall I choose from a 62 year relationship with my brother, John? John’s name (and my name, a feminine derivative of John) means God is gracious. Truly God was most gracious in my brother John’s life. John was the most dearly loved, only son of our parents, John Eaton Barrett and Cecilia (Beardsworth) Barrett.

John was blessed and excelled with great artistic and creative talents. He created remarkable unique wood carving and leather art pieces. He taught himself and worked from his own imagination. He was so creatively talented.

John was a theatrical and musical performer, as our parents were. John participated in theatrical performance arts via local theatrical productions, western staged gunfights, and participation in the Chicago Stockyard Kiltie Band. And he was an excellent and creative cook.

John had the most amazing and generous friends. I marvel at the extent of the kindness and generosity his friends have demonstrated to him throughout his life. No greater friends has anyone had than my brother’s friends.

My brother deeply loved all of his family members, but struggled with the logistics of family and relationship.

I wish my brother peace and rest in the kingdom of Christ, our Savior.
